Ronald Koeman says that Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch should have been selected for Holland despite his snub
Ronaldo Koeman has hinted that Ryan Gravenberch can yet make it back into the Netherlands squad.
Both the senior and under-21 national teams have passed on the Liverpool midfielder this week. Gravenberch left the Netherlands national under-21 team in September after joining the Reds from Bayern Munich on transfer deadline day. While Koeman initially criticized his decision, he ultimately supported it since he wаnted to use the opportunity to get acquainted with his new surroundings at Anfield. He still has a ‘certain impression’ of Gravenberch, the ex-manager of Everton and Barcelona said. The 21-year-old has scored once and assisted on two goals in seven games for the Reds, but Koeman insists he is not getting enough playing time to warrant a call-up.
After the Dutch Juniors were called off, Koeman told Nu.nl, “We do have a certain opinion about canceling the tournament.” His playing time is limited. I continue to believe in his talent and potential, so I’m rooting for him to have plenty of playing time at Liverpool. If that’s the case, he’ll be a key member of the Dutch squad.
Liverpool ‘decide against January move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie’
The 21-year-old has seen little action this season for the German side, appearing in just three Bundesliga games off the bench.
In contrast to previous season, when the center back started 27 games in the league and contributed to two goals, Hincapie has been unable to establish himself as a regular member of Xabi Alonso’s starting XI.
The young Ecuadorian has already amassed a significant amount of international experience, having started three games for La Tri in the group stage of the World Cup last year in Qatar.
Although the club is reportedly a fan of Hincapie, Football Insider reports that Liverpool will not try to buy him in the upcoming January transfer window. The agent for the 21-year-old central defender, Manuel Sierra, said that the Reds were in the running to sign him over the summer, but that Jurgen Klopp’s team ultimately decided to prioritize strengthening their engine room instead.
Liverpool spent big on midfielders Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch after losing Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to the lucrative Saudi Pro League.
It’s no sеcrеt that Klopp wаnted to add a left-footed defender to pair with Dutchman Virgil van Dijk, but signing top-tier midfielders was more pressing in preparation for the 2023-24 season.
Leverkusen are reportedly unwilling to sell the Ecuadorian to the Reds for less than €50m (£43.25m), according to Hincapie’s agency. The Merseyside club reportedly has its sights set on several additional left-footed central defenders in the coming transfer window as they aim for a top-four finish.
Despite suffering a contentious 1-0 setback at Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month, Klopp’s squad is presently fourth in the Premier League standings with 17 points after playing in eight games.
After two straight victories against Austria’s LASK and Belgium’s Union SG, the Reds will host Toulouse on October 26 as they continue their Europa League trip this season.
In the Merseyside derby at Anfield on October 21, Liverpool will play its first game after the second international break of the season.
