With a ‘high possibility’ of a January transfer for Brentford striker Ivan Toney, Chelsea could be taking a huge rιsk. Chelsea has spent close to £1 billiоn over the past three transfer windows to fully revamp their team.
Only Thiago Silva, Reece James, and Ben Chilwell remain from the 2021 Champions League-winning team coached by Thomas Tuchel. Mauricio Pochettino’s major focus right now is on finding the proper formula to get his starting eleven performing at peak efficiency.
The club brought in Nicolas Jackson to play No. 9 this past summer, but he hasn’t exactly made an impression. Raheem Sterling, Cole Palmer, and Jackson all scored for Chelsea in their recent 4-1 victory over Burnley.
However, GiveMeSport reports that Chelsea is keen on signing Toney after his suspension ends in the new year. According to the article, Toney prefers the idea of moving to Stamford Bridge in order to advance his career.
However, Mauricio Pochettino might lose some of his current alternatives if he were to make a deal for another striker in January. The two primary choices in the middle are Jackson and Armando Broja, the latter of whom has only recently returned from a lengthy ιnjury layoff.
Pochettino has challenged Broja to prove he is worthy of becoming Chelsea’s starting striker. Pochettino has started the Albanian striker in the last two league games despite Jackson being substituted in at halftime against Burnley.
Jackson, who went to Stamford Bridge for £32 million just a few months ago, would get the message if Chelsea signed Toney. Chelsea has been looking for exactly this type of player for the past year, and the 22-year-old checks all the boxes.
But it doesn’t look like he’ll have much time to establish he can be Chelsea’s starting striker. Pochettino will likely have a better grasp on his best attacking alternatives after 12 league games, when the January transfer window opens.
Whether Broja or Jackson go on a hоt streak is irrelevant, as it appears that Chelsea will make a bid for Toney anyway. Once they set their sights on a target, they have a history of successfully taking them on in the market.
Interfering with the development of Broja and Jackson, two promising young strikers, might come back to hаunt Chelsea.
