While discussing his connection with Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate revealed that Sergio Ramos is his “number one” role model.

Having helped Jurgen Klopp’s team to the 2022 FA Cup, League Cup, and Community Shield finals as well as the 2021 Champions League semi-finals, Konate was worth every penny of Liverpool’s £36 million acquisition of him from RB Leipzig in 2021.

This Friday, the 24-year-old will face Van Dijk while abroad on international duty with France against the Netherlands in a Euro 2024 qualifier. After being asked about his Liverpool teammate, Konate claimed he is “learning a lot from him” and that he “hopes to have a better career” in a pregame press conference.

When asked if he looks up to Van Dijk, Konate said, “There are very few defenders who have managed to have as good a career as him.” Together, we make a great learning team.He is well aware that I intend to surpass him professionally. My all-time favorite is Sergio Ramos. Since the Champions League final in 2018, Ramos has become something of a pantomime villain among Liverpool fans.

Ramos and Mohamed Salah collided during Real Madrid’s 3-1 victory over Liverpool, resulting in Salah having to leave the game with a dislocated shoulder and being replaced by Adam Lallana off the bench.

Replays shоwed that Ramоs had trapped Salah’s arm as the twо cоllided, and this has prоmpted sоme tо cоnclude that the incident was intentiоnal оn Ramоs’ behalf. Salah called it the “wоrst mоment” оf his career, and he ended up missing Egypt’s Wоrld Cup оpening against Uruguay because оf the injury.

“I remember when I went off, it was the worst moment in my career,” he commented. A player’s worst nightmare has come true. The hospital informed me of the outcome. That was not how we could lose.
