Since joining the Reds this summer, the new No. 8 has been constantly compared to Gerrard. The Hungarian’s game has been compared favorably to that of Liverpool’s captain, and with good reason.
And nоw, Szоbоszlai has verified that he has a permanent memоry оf Stevie G оn his arm by participating in a ‘Hоt оr Nоt?’ challenge fоr Liverpооl’s оfficial YоuTube channel.
Szоbоszlai shоwed Diоgо Jоta and Jоel Matip the tattоо оn his left fоrearm and said, “Hоt” when asked abоut his feelings оn tattооs. Jоta remarked, “Yоu explain tо us why yоu have them.”
“I actually have one from Gerrard,” the 22-year-old remarked, much to Jota’s amazement.
The Portuguese person’s reaction, a mix of surprise and appreciation, was “You have one from Gerrard?!”
“This one, right here. It’s in Hungarian, but if you can read it I’ll give you a lot of money!” Szoboszlai joked.
Szoboszlai says he signed with Gerrard
This particular tattoo is said to be a phrase from Stevie G’s playing days. It’s debatable and unimportant whether Gerrard actually said those remarks.
Szoboszlai clearly intended for the tattoo to represent a connection to Liverpool’s former No.8.
Now obviously, when Szoboszlai got the tattoos, he had no idea that he would wind up playing for Liverpool, much less wearing Gerrard’s old number.
This is also another reason why the former RB Leipzig player has adapted so well to his new team.
Szoboszlai was born to play for this soccer team, whether or not he realized it at the time.
Nobody has yet questioned the Hungary captain on whether he has been compared to Gerrard during his stay with the club.
It’s unclear how long it’ll take for this tidbit to spread again, but given the team’s consistently stellar play on the field, it’s safe to assume it won’t be long.
