A 20-year-old star at Chelsea is being heralded as one of the ‘fresh faces’ who will help advance England

A few years ago, most Chelsea fans hadn’t even heard of Levi Colwill. Things are different now.

After a successful first season in the Premier League with Brighton and a promising start to his first season back at Chelsea, he has been called up to play for England by manager Gareth Southgate during this international break.

He got the nod in Friday’s opener against Australia and might do it again tonight against Italy.

Micah Richards singled out Colwill as a player to highlight in postgame comments following the Aussies’ 1-0 loss.

We’ve had discussions about new players joining the team and how Southgate can assess their potential. Seeing [James] Maddison there, teaming up with [Jack] Grealish, was a highlight for me. Early evaluation of [Ollie] Watkins’ abilities. Tomori (Fikayo) is receiving some playing time. Colwill is making his debut and performing well… Richards noted on the The Rest is Football podcast that it was refreshing to watch new players.

Since his performances in England, he has gone from relative obscurity to widespread praise. To have come so far in just two years is encouraging. In two years, who knows what we’ll be saying; who would bet against him having 20 caps for England by then?

Struggling David Datro Fofana still looking for first goal on loan at struggling Union Berlin

The hipster favorites Union Berlin are currently experiencing some rough times.

Following their best-ever finish of fourth place in the Bundesliga and first-ever qualification for the Champions League, the club is currently mired in a seven-match losing streak across all competitions and is near the bottom of the league with just two wins in seven games. They’ve also dropped both of their European matches, both of which Real Madrid and Braga won with late goals.

The team’s goal production has been subpar, with just Kevin Behrens contributing significantly (4 goals in 7 games), and it’s only one of several problems. David Datro Fofana, on loan from Chelsea, reportedly fell to fourth in the team’s pecking order after appearing in all seven of their Bundesliga games and starting five of them.

However, he has a grand total of zero goals, on 18 shots (7 on target) totaling just 1.4 xG: stats that do not include his solitary cup appearance (4 shots but no xG info).

Union sporting director Oliver Ruhnert isn’t giving up on the idea or on David just yet; he believes in the old adage that all a striker needs is a goal to spark a scoring spree.

It’s not simple for a young player to turn things around. He’s also had his share of personal issues. It all started to click into place.

He’s someone who can assist us out, but he lacks a goal that would give him confidence.
