Damian Lillard Responds to His New ‘Freak Time’ Nickname with Giannis

After Damian Lillard was traded to the Bucks, a new nickname surfaced for him and Giannis Antetokounmpo, which Dame has responded to in a rather cool manner.

Many across the league are embracing Giannis and Dame’s latest moniker, ‘Freak Time,’ a fusion of their respective nicknames, ‘The Greek Freak’ and ‘Dame Time.’ On media day, the Bucks’ social media accounts fully embraced the name, posting pictures of the duo in Milwaukee jerseys.

NBA fans appear to be embracing the nickname as well, but Lillard has made it crystal clear that it’s not something he’s going to adopt.

“I’m not invested in that at all,” Lillard stated on the #ThisLeague UNCUT podcast with NBA insiders Chris Haynes and Marc Stein. “While everyone else is talking, I’m just focused on playing. I’ll leave that to everybody else.”

Clearly, Dame may not be a fan of the name, as he’s wholeheartedly dedicated to his distinctive ‘Dame Time’ nickname. On countless occasions, especially when he’s having a stellar performance, he famously points to his wrist to signify that it’s Dame Time. It seems Lillard isn’t particularly fond of all the attention surrounding Giannis and himself, though it’s uncertain what he expected.

The duo is under substantial pressure to deliver, but Giannis has suggested that things may take time to gel after their first game last week.

“It might take a month, two months, six months, it doesn’t matter,” Giannis commented after Dame’s debut game as a Buck against the Lakers. “We might figure it out in the last game of the regular season. The goal is to be where we want to be when it matters the most.”

All eyes will be on Freak Time when they face off against Philadelphia in Milwaukee for their season opener.
