Just three months after his release, Man United ‘are contemplating a spectacular homecoming for David de Gea’

Three months after allowing David de Gea to leave, Manchester United is allegedly considering a bid to bring him back to Old Trafford.

In order to give his team a fresh start in the summer, Erik ten Hag was determined to find a new starting goalkeeper who could provide the out-of-the-back playmaking he so desperately wants.

De Gea was shown the door as the United manager turned to Andre Onana, who had come for £47 million from Inter Milan.

However, United are apparently eager to secure their own future, since Onana may miss up to eight games in January if he chooses to play for Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations.

According to The Sun, United is allegedly planning a U-turn on De Gea in an attempt to get him back, especially because he is still a free agent after leaving.

Ten Hag would be left with veteran campaigner Tom Heaton, who has battled injuries this season, and 25-year-old summer addition Altay Bayindir, who has not yet made an appearance for United, should Onana depart with his country.

According to a story in The Sun, United is prepared to use De Gea even if they thought he was surplus to needs a few months ago.

It should be mentioned that United attempted to sign De Gea before he left, although at a lower salary.

After months of drawn-out talks with the club, he refused to accept the significant pay cut on his £375,000-per-week salary. However, since a new club appears to be out of the picture, a marriage of convenience in the New Year is reportedly a possibility.

On Monday, De Gea got back together with his former Manchester United teammates. Bruno Fernandes shared on social media his “coffee and friends” appointment with the goalie and a few other Red Devils players.

By posting a selfie of the two of them cuddling on Instagram last weekend, the Spaniard demonstrated his continued closeness to the captain of United.

Following Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday, De Gea and Fernandes continued to spend a lot of time together. The Portuguese star posted a picture of the two of them having coffee with his teammates Raphael Varane, Tom Heaton, and Victor Lindelof.

“It’s always a good choice to have coffee and friends,” Fernandes posted on Instagram.

De Gea responded, “Brothers,” with a heart-emoji.

After making several well-publicized errors early in the season, Onana has had a difficult start.

But on Tuesday against FC Copenhagen, he was the star of the show, making several clutch saves, the most important of which was the last-second penalty that preserved a crucial three points in the Champions League.

It is now hoped that Onana will be ignited by that magical event and regain his once steadfast confidence.

However, speculation about De Gea will increase the buzz among many players and some fans at Old Trafford.

Fernandes has already expressed his disappointment that De Gea was never given a fitting farewell in front of an audience at the Theatre of Dreams.

In order to ensure that he is prepared to be called upon if an offer he is interested in comes his way, De Gea has made a lot of footage of himself staying sharp in solo training drills available.

He’s been enjoying some downtime in Manchester up to this point.

De Gea and Fernandes wore matching shirts and grinned in his first Instagram post, which was uploaded over the weekend. The caption read, “together again.”

In light of Onana’s recent success, a number of Man United supporters seized the chance to beg De Gea to make a comeback.

One admirer excitedly commented on Instagram, “Come back in January.”

One more said, “Yeeeeeees!” I wish you guys were still together at United!

A third person wrote, “Please return to United.” We apologize on behalf of all of us at United, Dave.
