Erik ten Hag praises Andre Onana for helping them defeat Copenhagen

The Cameroonian has made 13 appearances for the Red Devils and has given up 20 goals. He has also come under fire for some errors made this season.

Onana has struggled, but Ten Hag has stuck by him, and on Wednesday, in their European match against Copenhagen, the 27-year-old kept a clean sheet.

Following Scott McTominay’s penalty for a high boot in the match at Old Trafford, the summer acquisition from Inter Milan saved a last-second penalty.

Onana’s crucial role in the crucial three points was praised by Ten Hag, but the Dutchman insisted that consistency is a must for every player in the team.

“I am aware of his excellence and skill set. Ten Hag told reporters on Tuesday night, “At United, you have to show it every game, having the right focus and mindset.”

“He will act if he has that. It’s crucial, in my opinion, for him. He received some criticism, of course, but he now saves the points for the boys; the save he made right after halftime was outstanding.

You can see that this squad is developing. We face many obstacles together as a group, but we work through them in the locker room and are gradually moving forward.

“Winning is imperative when we play at Manchester United. Everyone on the team receives criticism when they don’t win, but Harry [Maguire] and Andre receive more criticism than the others. Although it was a bit excessive, it gives them both greater confidence and will enable the team to move forward.

After a challenging stint at Old Trafford, Maguire found his form again to score the game’s lone goal against Copenhagen.

With nine points, Bayern Munich leads Group A, with the Red Devils currently in third place, one point behind Galatasaray in second.

Galatasaray will go to Bayern, while Man United will play away to Copenhagen in the next round of the competition. Ten Hag has stated that his team needs to win two more games in order to advance to the next round.

“We have to switch between games. We’ve seen today that there are no simple games. Copenhagen played with organization and skill. You won’t get very far against them if you don’t play your levels in the upcoming game, he warned.

“You must gather points if you wish to advance. We have another chance in the following game if we can win two more games.”

Man United will aim for a fourth straight victory in all competitions when they play Manchester City at Old Trafford on Sunday. They have also triumphed in their past two Premier League games against Brentford and Sheffield United.
