David de Gea may make a stunning comeback to Manchester United as the Red Devils prepare to request a short-term contract

The goalkeeper spent 12 years with the Premier League’s biggest teams, making an incredible 545 appearances, before being let go by the Red Devils at the end of his contract in the summer.

Andre Onana, a former Ajax player, was acquired by Man United for £47.2 million from Inter Milan to replace De Gea.

Erik ten Hag’s first pick this season has been Onana.

However, it now appears that the team is reconsidering their decision to let De Gea go.

Man United is concerned that they won’t have enough goalkeepers when Cameroon’s Onana competes in the Africa Cup of Nations in January and February, according to The Sun.

When the club signed Onana in the summer, they had no idea that he would decide to rescind his retirement from the national team.

They thus sold Crystal Palace Dean Henderson, who had been on loan at Nottingham Forest the previous season, during the same window.

They may now go back to De Gea and sign him to a three-month deal so he could cover for Onana.

That’s even though they turned their backs on the player, which made Bruno Fernandes, the captain, openly dispute that De Gea wasn’t given a fitting send-off.

The 32-year-old received a pay cut from £375,000 to £200,000 per week in exchange for staying at Old Trafford. That agreement was later removed off the table, though.

Since leaving, the Spaniard has not been on the field for any other team.
