A journalist has ruled out David De Gea’s return to Manchester United

Free agent goalkeeper David De Gea isn’t likely to be re-signed by Premier League powerhouse Manchester United, according to a report by GiveMeSport’s Ben Jacobs.

The veteran was the club’s undisputed starter for nearly a decade, and he was also one of the last remaining members of Sir Alex Ferguson’s 2013 Premier League championship team. Despite being a free agent since his previous deal expired in the summer, De Gea has not yet signed with any club.

Andre Onana, his replacement at the Theatre of Dreams, has had a rough go of it thus far with Manchester United. The judgment is still out on whether he is the ideal man for the job, despite the fact that he saved a last-gasp penalty against FC Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League earlier in the week.

Even if Erik ten Hag still has faith in Onana, the Cameroonian will be out of commission for the season’s middle when he competes in the African Cup of Nations. The Red Devils have Tom Heaton and Altay Bayindir, but despite their best efforts, they lack Onana’s charisma and skill.

In Onana’s absence, Manchester United were rumored to be interested in signing De Gea as a surprise replacement. But now Jacobs has poured cold water on the whole thing.

He said that De Gea is still resentful over the manner in which he was released from the club during the summer. Before Manchester United backtracked on their promise to keep the player, he had already made a lifetime commitment to the club. One would expect a veteran of such renown to be treated with more respect.

Jacobs continues by saying that they have both accepted that the relationship is over and have given up hope of ever getting back together. It would be dangerous to rekindle past wounds regarding the treatment of De Gea, which were shared by several United players.

The 32-year-old had a successful stint at Old Trafford. However, that time in his career has come to an end. It’s best if both parties just leave well enough alone.
