With a goal from Thuram, Inter bҽat Roma and former striker Lukaku 1-0 in Serie A play

Marcus Thuram, who came in for the injured Romelu Lukaku, scored the game-winning goal in Inter Milan’s 1-0 victory against Roma on Sunday to put the Nerazzurri back on top of Serie A.

In the 81st minute at the San Siro, Thuram diverted a cross from Federico Dimarco from close range to break down Jose Mourinho’s defensive strategies.

Mourinho was suspended for the game but watched from the stands as Roma sat back and took it.

Roma allowed 12 shots on goal in the first half while taking zero. Inter finished the game with 19 shots compared to just 3 for Roma.

Hakan Calhanoglu and Carlos Augusto both came close to scoring for Inter but were denied by the crossbar.

Inter is now two points clear of Juventus after the latter won its first game in over three years on Saturday with a 1-0 victory against Hellas Verona.

In the standings, Roma remained in seventh place, 11 points behind Inter.

After blowing a two-goal lead and drawing 2-2 with defending champion Napoli, AC Milan stayed in third place, three points back.

Lukaku’s main influence was clearing away Inter corners, which left the Inter faithful with few opportunities to boo the player who had left them on bad terms at the end of the previous season and joined a strong rival.

Claudio Ranieri’s Cagliari overcame a three-goal deficit after 70 minutes to overcome Frosinone 4-3 on the road thanks to a pair of late goals from Leonardo Pavoletti.

Andrea Colpani and Lorenzo Lucca scored for their respective teams as Modena and Udinese tied 1-1. Colpani now has five goals for the season, third most among midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues behind only Jude Bellingham (10 goals) and Bryan Mbeumo (6).
