Five things seen in Chelsea training before their Carabao Cup match give Fernandez a tip about the wonderkid’s debut

In the Carabao Cup round of 16, Blackburn Rovers will visit Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night. Mauricio Pochettino will hope that Chelsea can get back to winning ways. They lost to Brentford, which was upsetting because it ended a great streak of four games without a loss for the Blues.

Following their 1-0 loss to Swansea over the weekend, the Championship team will also be trying to turn things around. This season, not many English Football League clubs will be putting a lot of emphasis on the tournament, but Pochettino is eager to win some hardware.

“Really important,” the boss of Chelsea said. “I already told you before the season began that I believe the Carabao Cup or FA Cup is very important for us.” We’ll try to play with our best team tomorrow.

“There are some players we might need to rest because we can’t take any chances after Saturday’s game.” We’ll try to put together our best team most of the time.

Pochettino then said, “No, we are not going to make a decision tomorrow with Monday in mind because I think we have time to recover the players.” This meant that his team was not thinking about the Tottenham game on Monday. As I already said, I think the most important thing is for all the players to be ready to play tomorrow. Then we’ll decide.

“аlwаys tаking tҺe best Ԁecisiоn if sоme plаyers neeԀ tо rest becаuse tҺere is а risk sоmetҺing Һаppens but we аre gоing tо try tо tаke it very seriоusly, like аlwаys becаuse I tҺink it is а cоmpetitiоn we cаn gо tҺrоugҺ.”

So, football.london looked at five things that stood out in the most recent set of training photos from Cobham, where Chelsea is being put through their paces.

Fernandez comes back

Enzo Fernandez went back to training this week after being left out of the team that played Brentford on Saturday. Pochettino will be thrilled to have the 22-year-old player back with the team. The Blues really missed him.

Call-up for Wonderkid

Before the game against Blackburn, Leo Castledine joined the first team at Cobham for training, which suggests that he might be making his senior appearance soon. This season, the 18-year-old attacking player has scored eight goals and set up seven others in seven Premier League 2 games. Pochettino could turn to the teenager because Chelsea is having trouble scoring goals in the final third.

Changes for Sanchez

Pochettino might want to replace Robert Sanchez with Djordje Petrovic after a few lacklustre games. The 24-year-old custodian joined Chelsea from the New England Revolution near the end of the summer transfer window. He hasn’t played for the Blues yet, so he’ll be eager to show what he can do against Blackburn, and not just in practise.

James gets ready

Coach Pochettino told the press before the game that James would start for Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night. The right back looked ready to go at Cobham, where he would be making only his third start of the season.

Putting on the Gusto

Malo Gusto just got back from a suspension, but he still seems to be nursing a knee issue. The Frenchman trained with the first team at Cobham as normal, but his right knee was heavily bandaged in white.
