Heading into the 2023-24 NBA season, one major trade had been anticipated, and it has now become a reality. James Harden, the star guard of the Philadelphia 76ers, had been seeking a trade, preferably to the Los Angeles Clippers, and had made it clear that he had no intention of reconciling with the team’s general manager, Daryl Morey.
The stage was set for this move, and the Clippers, the rivals of the Los Angeles Lakers, have now added another significant piece to their roster.
The Clippers finalized a trade deal to acquire James Harden and PJ Tucker from the 76ers, parting ways with several players and draft picks. This transaction also involved the Oklahoma City Thunder as a third team, and it was completed just before the highly anticipated Wednesday game against the Lakers.
The LA Clippers successfully acquired James Harden, a 10-time All-Star guard, in a blockbuster trade with the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night, as reported by sources close to the situation.
In return, the 76ers traded Harden, along with P.J. Tucker and Filip Petrusev, to the Clippers. The Clippers sent Marcus Morris, Robert Covington, Nic Batum, KJ Martin, a 2028 unprotected first-round pick, two second-round picks, and a 2029 pick swap to the 76ers in exchange.
To facilitate this complex deal, the Clippers are also sending a 2027 first-round pick swap to the Oklahoma City Thunder. This move enables the Thunder to trade a protected 2026 first-round pick to the 76ers. As part of the trade, the Clippers will also provide the Sixers with a 2024 and a 2029 second-round pick.
This trade has sent shockwaves through the league and has fans eagerly awaiting the impact James Harden will have on the Clippers’ performance in the upcoming game against their cross-town rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers.
