Nunez’s superb goal send Liverpool into the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup

Liverpool took the lead against Bournemouth, but were equalized at the beginning of the second half due to having to play against the wind. Right at the time of the match, Jurgen Klopp and his team found the decisive goal when Nunez dribbled the ball from the sidelines and scored into the far corner from outside the penalty area, bringing home the ticket to continue.

Liverpool’s starting lineup had eight changes compared to the match against Nottingham Forest in the most recent round of the Premier League, while Bournemouth only changed two full-backs. However, Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo or Dominic Szoboszlai are still good enough to help Liverpool control the match in the first half.

The impact of Storm Ciaran caused strong winds during the match at Vitality on November 1. In each round, the windy team finished twice as hard as their opponents. Liverpool held the advantage in the first half, when Gakpo took advantage of a messy ball in the penalty area to open the score. The Dutch striker’s fourth goal in the last seven matches helped Liverpool increase their scoring streak to 25.

Balls from Bournemouth’s corners in the second half were powered by the wind and headed straight towards Liverpool’s goal. From such a situation, Justin Kluivert equalized with a finish in the 64th minute. After that, Joe Gomez had to react quickly to save when the ball from another corner headed straight to the post.

Liverpool suffered consecutive shots from Alex Scott, Dominic Solanke or Semenyo in the second half, before Nunez’s shining moment decided the game. Receiving the ball from Trent Alexander-Arnold, the Uruguayan striker dribbled the ball from the sideline to the middle and curled it past the wind and goalkeeper Andrei Radu.

The 2-1 victory helped Liverpool enter the round of eight strongest teams and raise hopes of winning the 10th League Cup. This weekend, they will be away at Luton before going to France to meet Toulouse in the Europa League mid-next week.
