Ten Hag replacement! Ruben Amorim, the head coach of Sporting, reacts to the Manchester United link

United’s bad start to the season got even worse on Wednesday night, when they lost 3-0 to Newcastle at Old Trafford and were knocked out of the Carabao Cup. Erik ten Hag is under more and more heat at United.

Reports sаy that United is now actively looking for someone to replace Ten Hag. Amorim and former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane are said to be on the club’s shortlist.

Amorim was on Chelsea’s shortlist for manager earlier this year before they hired Mauricio Pochettino. He says he knows what he wants to do after this season ends, but he has made it clear that he will “respect” his deal with Sporting until 2026.

At the end of Thursday night’s 4–2 win over Farense in the Portuguese League Cup, Amorim was asked about United’s interest. He said, “This year I’m not going to have the same conversation as last year.”

“I am not going to sаy anything about these situations.”

In the press conference after the game, Amorim was asked again about a possible move to United. He said, “We don’t know the future, it depends on the results.”

It’s more about the idea of what we need as a team: more pressure to not hide.

I think I know what will happen at the end of the season, but I won’t sаy it yet. We get to a different place, though, because of the results and the situation.

“I don’t want to sаy anything about these things.” Man United has not gotten in touch with me.

When asked if things might change if United use the release clause in his Sporting deal, which is thought to be worth around €10 million (£8.7m), Amorim said, “I’m not going to sаy anything about that.”

“I will follow through on the terms of the contract; everything in it will be done.”
