In the early stages of the NBA season, the Memphis Grizzlies find themselves in a somewhat unexpected and undesirable position. They are the only team in the league yet to secure a victory.
As the season kicked off, the Grizzlies faced the challenge of “surviving” until the return of their star player, Ja Morant, who is serving a 25-game suspension. However, things haven’t gone as planned for the team thus far.
Memphis is now the lone winless team in the NBA after the first week of the season, raising concerns among fans and pundits about the team’s performance and prospects. In their initial five games, the Grizzlies have struggled on both ends of the court.
Their offense has been less than stellar, with the team posting the worst offensive rating in the league. On the defensive side, they’ve also ranked in the bottom 10, indicating a lack of efficiency in that aspect as well. It’s clear that apart from a few standout performances from Desmond Bane, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Marcus Smart, the Grizzlies have yet to receive consistent contributions from the rest of their roster.
In addition to the absence of Ja Morant, the team has also been without key players like Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke, who are unlikely to return for the entire 2023-24 season due to injuries. Even the defensive prowess of Dillon Brooks has been missed, further adding to the team’s struggles.
