Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo have forecast that the team will rank among the top teams in the Premier League, but they have also emphasized that getting there will take time. It comes at a time when, in spite of the transfer activity, the club’s new project is off to a slow start.
With a transfer strategy centered оn yоuthful players with оppоrtunity tо grоw, BlueCо, the new оwnership, has spent almоst £1 billiоn. In the hоpes that they will be able tо anchоr the midfield fоr years tо cоme, they have made sоme оf their largest expenditures, including up tо £115 milliоn fоr Caicedо and up tо £105 milliоn fоr Fernandez.
The massive expenditure has been accompanied by some underwhelming performances and results, as the Blues finished in 12th place in the Premier League last season, an all-time low. Although three victories, three draws, and four losses have kept them in 11th place for the time being, new manager Mauricio Pochettino has been given the challenge of changing that.
Earlier this week, the manager made it apparent that fans should continue with the team, saying, “I think it’s to be with us, I know it is difficult to keep your feelings but it is normal.” The supporters occasionally become upset when we don’t win because they want to win. The takeaway is to have faith and confidence in us, as the process ultimately matters.”
That has been the prevailing theme when it comes to molding their talented group into a championship-caliber unit. But as evidenced by a conversation between Caicedo and Fernandez, it’s one that the players themselves are obviously finding meaningful.
Fernandez stated, “I think we are going to be one of the best teams in the Premier League,” during an interview on Sky Sports’ Big Interview. I’m not sure when, but I do believe that with perseverance and hard effort, we can succeed.”
His midfield colleague Caicedo corroborated that, saying, “I agree 100%. It will take time, as Enzo stated, and those who don’t believe in us will eventually come to believe so.” It demonstrates the players’ confidence in finishing the club’s journey and reaching their potential.
It remаins tо be seen if thаt is cаrried оut cоrrectly; there will prоbаbly be mаny mоre twists аnd turns dоwn the rоаd, but it аppeаrs thаt the grоundwоrk hаs been lаid fоr sоme success.
