Celtics legend compare Ja Morant with Mavs superstar, who will be NBA future?

Ja Morant and Luka Doncic, both born in 1999, are among the shining stars of the NBA’s younger generation. Despite their distinct positions and playing styles, their remarkable talents and accomplishments have prompted comparisons. “One nine versus one ten” – a debate that has sparked considerable interest.

Recently, NBA legends Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett engaged in a lively discussion to determine the better choice for building a team around. The debate was heated, but ultimately, Ja Morant garnered votes from both Boston Celtics legends.

Paul Pierce expressed his views, stating, “Luka has impressive statistics, but I appreciate Ja’s style of play. He exerts immense pressure on opponents and showcases strong defensive abilities. His physicality and speed are also noteworthy. I’d choose the Memphis player. He reminds me of a combination of Allen Iverson and Derrick Rose.”

Kevin Garnett shared a similar sentiment, saying, “I’d also opt for Ja. That’s not to undermine Luka, as you can’t teach a player over 2 meters tall how to play basketball. But if I had to make a choice, it’d be Ja Morant. His market value is rising, and his impact on the team is immense.”

Ja Morant’s ascent in the NBA serves as an inspiration. Despite his modest height of 1.91 meters, the 22-year-old ranks third in the league in terms of points scored within the paint. Playing as a lead guard, he showcases incredible toughness and an impressive ball-handling skill set. Compensating for his physical stature, Morant executes lightning-quick bursts that leave defenders helpless, often converting “and-1” opportunities. In his third NBA season, he has established himself as a formidable player, forcing opposing teams to mount a vigorous defense as soon as he crosses the half-court line.

On the other hand, Luka Doncic rose to fame in his second year in the league. Often dubbed the “Record Holder,” he achieved numerous triple-doubles that etched his name into the annals of NBA history. However, Doncic’s career has been marked by controversies surrounding his weight and a perceived lack of dedication to training.

Despite multiple opportunities to clinch the MVP title, Doncic has sometimes relied on his natural talents while seemingly neglecting the hard work required for success. Yet, his unrefined version still boasts averages of 24.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 8.6 assists.

At present, Ja Morant is a young star who has exceeded NBA expectations. The Grizzlies have made significant strides compared to his rookie season. Morant contributes an average of 24.4 points, 6.7 assists, and a 48.7% efficiency rating to the team’s 31-15 record. The Grizzlies currently hold the third position, trailing the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference rankings. Morant, donning jersey number 12, stands as a prominent contender in this year’s MVP race.
