The Hidden Battle: Lakers’ Anthony Davis Overcomes Hip Spasms in Intense Clash with Heat

Manila — Due to spasms in his left hip, star player Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers was forced to exit the team’s 108-107 loss to the Miami Heat on Monday night, according to the team.

Davis appeared to first injure his left side while he was shooting with Miami’s Jaime Jaquez Jr. late in the second quarter. Despite his injury, he continued to play for a few possessions before Los Angeles trailed 54-52 with 2:17 remaining in the first half and replaced him.

In the third quarter, Davis warmed up and restarted the game after the intermission. But in order to replace Davis, the Lakers had to request a timeout with 10:01 remaining in the quarter.

Davis went back to the locker area a few minutes later and tried to check in again, but to no effect. The Lakers were outscored by ten points in the eight minutes when Davis appeared in the third quarter.

With fewer than two minutes remaining in the third, Davis appeared to aggravate the injury once more and exclaimed, “F—!” before being substituted.

Davis, who entered the game averaging a career-high 38.8 minutes per game this season—the second most in the league—finished with nine points on four of seven shots, six rebounds, and four assists in twenty-five minutes against the Heat.
