Club president ‘sure’ of Thiago Silva’s departure, but Chelsea’s two-year plan might be problematic

Mario Bittencourt, the president of Fluminense, is optimistic that Thiago Silva will join the Brazilian team before the end of his career. The defender for Chelsea, who is nearing the conclusion of his contract for the third season in a row, has expressed in the past that he would like to rejoin his childhood team.

Silva became a free agent in August 2020 and has since established himself as an important member of Chelsea’s squad. The 39-year-old former star of PSG and AC Milan has shown to be a reliable starter in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting lineup and participated in every Premier League game in 2023–2024.

Following extensive conjecture about a possible return to South America, Silva lastly signed a contract extension in February. That appears to be what will happen again in the upcoming weeks.

оf cоurse, Bittencоurt isn’t given up оn the idea оf gоing back tо Fluminense. He stated, accоrding tо Spоrt Witness: “I still feel cоmpelled tо bring him in. Fоr being such a great player and perfоrming well fоr his age. that Tricоlоr is a great guy. He might definitely play fоr Fluminense оnce mоre in the future.”

Because of the fervor of speculation about his future a year ago, Silva has chosen to remain silent thus far.

October: “This relationship has been going on for a long time,” he stated to Globo Esporte. “But I prefer to remain silent at this moment, as there has already been some controversy in the recent past.”

But prior to his most recent campaign with the Blues, he acknowledged it would be challenging to leave the team. Silva’s parents are European natives, and his two kids attend Chelsea’s academy. But Silva said he had a “desire” to go back to Fluminense.

“Everyone knows how much I would like to go back to Fluminense, but because my children don’t want to live in Brazil, it’s hard to talk to my family about it today,” he said to Ge Globo. Despite the complexity of the situation, we still have a year to think things through and decide what we’re going to do the following year.”

Iago, Silva’s eldest son, is presently signed to a longer Blues contract than his father.

In June, the veteran stated, “Chelsea has won the heart of the entire family.” Isago and Iago, my sons, are both Chelsea players. We will be staying here for two years as Isago has extended his contract for the following two seasons. All we can hope for is more!”
