Tyler Herro suffered a significant right ankle sprain during the Miami Heat’s victory against the Memphis Grizzlies on November 8, raising concerns about his immediate playing future.
Following the injury, Herro quickly retreated to the locker room and did not rejoin the game. Despite his absence, the Heat managed to secure a 108-102 victory over the Grizzlies, with Herro contributing six points in just eight minutes of play.
An MRI on Herro’s right ankle is scheduled for tomorrow. Fortunately, initial X-rays revealed no fractures, providing a glimmer of relief amid the injury scare.
Prior to the setback, Herro had been showcasing his scoring prowess, averaging an impressive 25.3 points per game. In an interview with Wes Goldberg of The Ringer, Herro expressed confidence in his scoring abilities, stating, “I’m one of the best young scorers in the league, and I have the potential to be the best scorer in the NBA at some point.”
The offseason saw trade rumors swirling around Herro, especially in the Heat’s pursuit of Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers. However, the Blazers ultimately traded Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks, leaving Herro content to remain with the Heat.
Reflecting on the trade talks, Herro expressed his happiness, saying, “I was happy. Ecstatic, really. My family’s here, my kids, my [friends] live in Miami. Came from Milwaukee with me. Everything is in Miami. If I were to get traded, at the end of my career, Miami will still be my home.”
Acknowledging the critics, Herro remains motivated to prove himself in the NBA, particularly after a summer filled with trade rumors. “I think my name just gives people something to talk about every summer,” he shared. “The goalpost always moves with me.”
The extent of Herro’s absence from the court is yet to be determined, and fans hope for a swift recovery for the talented scorer.
