Inter Live reports that Manchester United will contact FC Porto about signing veteran striker Mehdi Taremi in January. United will offer €30 million to Inter Milan to let them know they’re not in the running for Taremi.
The Red Devils have had a rоugh seasоn thus far, drоpping nine оf their first 17 matches acrоss all cоmpetitiоns. After their lоss tо Cоpenhagen in the middle оf the week, they are nоw facing the prоspect оf being eliminated frоm the Champiоns League befоre the tоurnament even begins.
Manager Erik ten Hag is apparently making preparations to further bolster his squad before the January transfer market opens, as his team has been unable to turn their fortunes around through internal means alone.
A new center back and another striker are rumored to be on Ten Hag’s shopping list, with the latter needed to relieve some of the pressure on young forward Rasmus Hojlund, who has performed admirably despite receiving only scraps of service since his big-money summer arrival.
The Dane has yet to score in the Premier League, but he has five goals in Europe and is the league’s all-time Champions League leading scorer. However, concerns remain over the quality of primary backup Anthony Martial, while Marcus Rashford seems bewildered without his purple goal-scoring patch.
That’s why in January, Manchester United will be willing to spend big on a more seasoned striker. Now, according to Italian media, Ten Hag is making plans to bring Taremi, a striker for Porto, to Old Trafford during the upcoming January transfer window.
The 31-year-old has been the team’s shining star for the past three years with FC Porto. He has scored 83 goals and given 53 assists in 160 outings for Porto. His productivity has fallen slightly this season, with just six goal contributions returned in 13 games.
Although the Iranian international’s age may raise some concerns, it is apparent that Taremi has not yet reached the pinnacle of his career.
His style of play is not time-sensitive. With his ability to hold up the ball, bring others into play with short passes, and then arrive in the box to finish opportunities, he is a good fit for United’s fast and direct attackers.
At the end of the season, his contract with FC Porto will expire. Given his age and the month of January, a bargain transfer seems likely.
According to the source, the sum of €10 million is all that is needed to sign the 31-year-old during the winter transfer window. The Red Devils are willing to sign the striker on a three-and-a-half year deal with an annual after-tax salary of roughly €4.5 million.
The total estimated worth of this endeavor is roughly EUR 30 million. Even if he hasn’t established himself in Europe’s top five leagues yet, that would still be fantastic value for money for a club like Manchester United.
