Grizzlies coach unleashes criticism on referees following loss to Jazz

Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins expressed no restraint in his criticism of the officials after Friday’s game. The Grizzlies faced a 127-121 defeat against the Utah Jazz at FedExForum in Memphis, Tenn.

Throughout the contest, Jenkins and the Grizzlies displayed frustration with the calls, reaching a boiling point late in the third quarter.

During this critical juncture, Grizzlies All-Star Jaren Jackson Jr. believed he should have earned an and-1 after scoring a basket around the 4:30 mark. Upset with referee Karl Lane, Jackson’s reaction led to two quick technicals and his ejection. Jenkins also received a technical foul.

In the postgame press conference, an incensed Jenkins had strong words for the reporters when questioned about the officiating. “Sure, saddle up. One of the most poorly officiated games I’ve ever seen. Record it. I’m fine with it. F–king atrocious,” said Jenkins (profanity edited by LBS).

The Grizzlies accrued 23 fouls in the game compared to the Jazz’s 17, adding to their struggles as they hold the worst record in the NBA at 1-8, especially with Ja Morant still serving a 25-game suspension.
