Aggressive tackle, the Liverpool midfielder was not kicked out like Rashford

The Premier League referee caused controversy when he did not show a red card to Wataru Endo (Liverpool) when this player committed a dangerous foul on the opponent.

In the 53rd minute of Liverpool’s match against Brentford, Wataru Endo had a strong collision with Christian Noorgard in the midfield. The home team midfielder stepped directly on Noogard’s knee and caused him to bleed. VAR stepped in but determined that Endo was not at fault. The Japanese star comfortably played until the final whistle sounded. Mr. Paul Tierney’s decision created controversy on social networks. Many fans believe that Endo deserves a red card, or at least a yellow card. On the contrary, others think that the player of “The Kop” is trying to get his foot back. This is the reason why he escaped punishment.

A similar situation happened just a few days earlier. Marcus Rashford covered the ball and accidentally stepped on the foot of a player on the Copenhagen side. The referee then immediately drew a red card to disqualify the Man Utd striker. Not only “Red Devils” fans, many experts and former players such as Ian Wright, Jamie Carragher or Owen Hargreaves all affirmed that Rashford’s play did not deserve a red card.

In a rare start in the Premier League this season, Endo contributed to Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Brentford. Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez are the main characters of the match. In particular, Salah shined with 2 goals, while Nunez also made his mark with 1 assist and 2 goals stripped by VAR. Diogo Jota played the role of finishing off the opponent with a superb long-range shot.

According to Opta, in all competitions Liverpool won 9 consecutive matches at home at Anfield and all scored 2 goals or more. This is a statistic that has never appeared at Anfield since 1980. Personally, Salah also went down in the team’s history when he became the only Liverpool player to score in all of the first 6 home matches of the Premier League season.

3 points against Brentford helped Liverpool rise to second place after round 12 with 27 points, equal to Arsenal but ranked higher thanks to better sub-index. In the late match, Man City still held the top spot with 28 points after a 4-4 draw against Chelsea. In the next match, Pep Guardiola and his team will face Liverpool at the Etihad.
