To the list of teams involved in a brawl during Tuesday night’s in-season tournament games, add the Los Angeles Lakers and Memphis Grizzlies.

Though it didn’t happen in the opening two minutes of play like the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves did, Anthony Davis and Santi Aldama’s shoving contest did occur during the first quarter, and both players were given technical fouls.

After Memphis guard Desmond Bane entered the dispute and began a back-and-forth with Davis, there was a bench-clearing meeting between the two sides. Each of the participants needs to be kept apart.

But the refs weren’t done yet. The Grizzlies head coach also earned a technical because Taylor Jenkins was furious that Aldama had been given one. Only a few days prior, he had publicly criticized the officiating his clubs had been assigned to during the preseason. He was fined $25,000 by the NBA as a result.

“It was one of the worst officiated games I have ever seen,” Jenkins began his two-minute tirade. Capture it. That’s okay with me. Horrible as Һell.

“What are the current exchanges with the officials? Total disregard.”

Jenkins did not care that the league would fine him, even though he was well aware of it. Jenkins stated that what matters more to him is publicly backing his players, which he also did following Aldama’s technical foul.

Jenkins remarked, “I know what’s coming,” following the Grizzlies’ Friday 127-121 loss to the Utah Jazz. “It’s unbelievable, the looks on the [official’s] faces while I’m trying to engage in conversation to defend our guys that are busting their tail right now.”

With five minutes remaining in the first quarter, Los Angeles led 18-16 thanks to a contested layup made by the Lakers forward after he received a long outlet ball. At first, it appeared as though Aldama would go up with Davis, but the Memphis forward changed his mind right before the shot.

Things became heated at this point.

Davis tried to turn back to the defense, but Aldama tackled him. He did this while claiming that Davis was preventing him from inbounding the ball.

Aldama was shoved to the ground by Davis, who did not show mercy. Bane went up to the big guy and had a chest-to-chest conversation with Davis as he was making his way to center court. D’Angelo Russell intervened between the two players, neither of whom gave up.

Nevertheless, Davis received his payback the lawful manner at the end of the half. Davis swatted the ball away and went back to the sender as Bane attempted a layup by cutting down the lane. The force of the refusal threw Bane falling to the ground.

The halftime score for the Lakers is at 74-51. Davis has three blocks, eight rebounds, and fifteen points. With 16 points and four assists off the bench, Aldama leads Memphis, followed by Bane with 8 points and four assists.
