LeBron James on the Brink of History: Can He Surpass 40,000 or 45,000 Points in his Illustrious NBA Career?

LeBron James just became the first player in NBA history to score 39,000 Regular Season points. So are further milestones safe for superstars born in 1984?
Last season, LeBron James conquered the highest mountain of scoring achievements in the NBA when he surpassed legendary Kareem AbDul-Jabbar, becoming the player with the most points of all time.

This historic milestone was broken in February in a match against the Oklahoma City Thunder, where LeBron scored his 38,388th point with a mid-range fade-away shot.

Yesterday, the superstar born in 1984 reached new heights when he surpassed the 39,000 point mark, extending the all-time scoring record he currently holds.

Now every time he plays, LeBron James’s record score increases. Players trailing on the NBA’s all-time scoring list will take even longer to close the gap.

According to statistics from ESPN, James was the youngest or only player to reach even point milestones (1,000 points, 2,000 points, 3,000 points… and now 39,000 points).

So the question is whether LeBron can reach 40,000 or even further, 45,000 or 50,000 points in the future?

LeBron James is averaging 26.4 points per game. So it will take him about 38 more games to score the 40,000th point in his career. The perfect scenario is that James will reach this milestone in mid-February 2024, right before the All-Star break.

The risk of injury or the coaching staff retaining LeBron for the Playoffs cannot be ignored. In this case, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar will set the record sometime in March or April.

Following the trend of missing about 30% of Regular Season games that LeBron James has played since arriving at the Los Angeles Lakers, he can score about 1,400-1,500 points per season (an average of 25 points/game).

Thus, the milestone of 40,000 points is almost certainly within the reach of the “king” this season. Further, the number 45,000 is difficult to reach but can still be achieved if LeBron decides to play another 4-5 seasons.
