After watching his 10-man Blues get thrashed 4-1 by Newcastle, Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino departed “so upset,” calling it “our worst game of the season.”
Mauricio Pochettino, manager of Chelsea, was “so upset” after his team played in their “worst game of the season”—a 4-1 loss to Newcastle United.
After being completely outplayed by Eddie Howe’s troops, the Blues had a miserable afternoon at St. James’ Park. Although the hosts took the lead through Alexander Isak, they were quickly leveled thanks to a piece of individual brilliance from Raheem Sterling in the 23rd minute. After then, though, things started to go south as Joelinton, Anthony Gordon, and Jamaal Lascelles all scored to secure the three points. The situation became even worse for the West London club when captain Reece James was sent off.
“It was our worst game of the season,” Pochettino stated after the encounter, and he was visibly agitated on the sidelines. Being a spectator was not easy. Because we were not in the game from the start, we have no grounds to complain about the outcome. We failed to play with the requisite ferocity and enthusiasm. We had an opportunity to have them play deep after scoring, but Newcastle had it made for them at 1-1. I am incredibly disappointed by the performance because of that.
