Lakers star Anthony Davis’ worrying shooting ability was once again “exposed” in the match against the Philadelphia Sixers.
The Los Angeles Lakers just suffered their heaviest defeat of the 2023–24 season with a 138–94 loss at the hands of the Philadelphia 76ers.
The purple and yellow team doesn’t have many excuses because they have both LeBron James and Anthony Davis healthy. But in the past few weeks, superstar Anthony Davis is no longer himself with a decline in form, largely due to his unstable finishing performance. The match against the Sixers was a clear demonstration when AD appeared completely inferior to the person playing in the same position on the other side of the front line, Joel Embiid.
According to data from Meadowlark Media, through the first 17 matches of the season, AD successfully threw 6/31 (19.4%) from a medium distance. This certainly greatly affects a team like the Lakers that wants to compete for the championship, especially when the Los Angeles team’s 3-point shooting ability is at an alarming level.
Anthony Davis also proved ineffective in long throws with a modest performance of 3-21 (14.3%) this season. It seems like the version of Davis that played for the Lakers in the 2020 NBA Bubble is no more, because back then he was simply a monster.
An unstoppable force from mid-range shots or a series of three-point shots spreads sadness among teams. This incredible inconsistency from Davis is what makes him the most disappointing player on the Lakers roster right now.
Faced with the appearance of “war god” Joel Embiid, all paths leading to the Lakers’ basket were almost blocked. The Lakers’ shooting rate in the 3-point area on the November 28 match was only 25% effective, with 7/28 successful shooting situations. Anthony Davis didn’t even make any 3s.
Philadelphia organized a tight defense. They excelled in the rebound index, with 48 rebounds the whole match. Joel Embiid and his teammates locked down the Lakers’ superstars, causing the opponent to suffer up to 17 turnovers (losing the ball).
