This weekend, in the Premier League, Chelsea will meet Brighton in an effort to recover from their embarrassing loss to Newcastle. At St. James’ Park on Saturday, the Blues were soundly defeated by the Magpies, ending their undefeated streak in all competitions.
Mauricio Pochettino will be without two key players for Sunday’s match against Roberto De Zerbi’s squad: Marc Cucurella and Reece James, who are both suspended for one match each. Chelsea supporters, nevertheless, are holding out hope that Romeo Lavia and Christopher Nkunku may be able to make the squad for this weekend’s meeting.
After injuring himself in the summer, Chelsea’s £52 million summer acquisition of Nkunku from RB Leipzig has delayed his competitive debut. After hurting his knee in a preseason match in the US against Borussia Dortmund, the 26-year-old attacker has missed the entire 2018–19 season.
Pochettino recently commented on Nkunku and Lavia’s progress, sаying: “It’s difficult sаy [when Nkunku and Lavia will be back] because we need to assess them day by day.” Their condition is satisfactory.
Just ahead of Lavia is Nkunku. Even though he hasn’t entirely recovered, he was nonetheless involved with the group last week.
Since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, Lavia has been nursing an ankle ailment, and the Blues have yet to see his debut. The adolescent midfielder’s return date was pushed back into December after he suffered a significant setback last month while recovering.
Evening Standard reports that Nkunku has been working out on his own and may still be able to show up for Lavia’s encounter against Brighton—a match that is also theoretically possible. until this would be fantastic news for the Blues, who are hoping to get back on track, it’s important to remember that neither player will likely see significant playing time or start any games until they get back on the field.
