At his expansive home outside Phoenix, the athlete entertains his towering teammates and friends in high style

Inside the rigid lines of a basketball court, NBA rookie Devin Booker has created a look as graceful as a butterfly. The guard for the Phoenix Suns, 25, moves with a fluidity and lightning-fast pace that would have made Diaghilev proud. As balls appear to do for all great players, the basketball seems to cooperate with him when he shoots, and before the parabola is finished through the basket, Booker was proclaimed the 2018 NBA Three-Point Contest winner. Although the world is accustomed to seeing him dribbling on a basketball court, Booker’s domestic skits might show an even greater understanding of body language and spatial body movement.

Booker remarks, “I count myself lucky to be surrounded by people with great style.” “I’m like a sponge, taking in everything I see and asking questions whenever I walk into my friends’ homes.” This inquisitiveness is now prominently displayed in the basketball player’s modern Arizona home. With striking views of the neighboring Phoenix Mountains Preserve, the contemporary single-story house appears to have been painted by the Taos Society of Artists. As a matter of fact, Booker was initially drawn to this drama and its direct link to the surrounding environment. “When someone approaches the house, it’s deceptive because it looks there’s not much going on,” Booker said of the real estate agent brother Davon Wade, who sold him the property in 2019. However, visitors are shocked to see the pool, the yard, and all the adjacent rooms when they first go in.I adore how a seemingly simple house can nonetheless have a lot going on.
Despite being regarded as one of the NBA’s most promising young players, Booker’s background is more modest. The Grand Rapids native recalls closing her eyes before going to bed as a child and daydreaming about her future home in Michigan. “Depending on the night, the home’s shape and size would change, but the interiors were always the same—modern with a hint of nostalgia.” Booker is no longer required to close his eyes. That ambition is now a reality thanks to assistance from Clements Design, an AD100 agency located in Los Angeles.

Devin’s sense of style is evident in his clothing choices, according to Kathleen Clements, who collaborated on the home’s design with her son Tommy Clements. He looks nice and put together in a really natural way with everything he wears. Not everyone is able to pull it off. With the help of L.A.-based Karan Brady Interiors, Clements and her team outfitted the new house with specially designed furniture that could fit people up to seven feet tall while yet staying inside the pre-existing architectural envelope. “Devin enjoys entertaining and spending time with his loved ones. He just so happens to have friends that play in the NBA,” Clements smiles. This required building 12-foot-long couches and a specially designed poker table for his tall pals, as well as locating historic furniture that fits Booker’s art collection at the right scale. Clements continues, “Devin is very sophisticated when it comes to design.” “He has a remarkable ability to blend very contemporary pieces with older, worn-in pieces.”
Booker went on a road trip to discover different parts of Arizona with his girlfriend, supermodel Kendall Jenner, in the early months of the pandemic. “We went to Roden Crater and were amazed by the experience,” he says, referring to James Turrell’s expansive artwork situated inside an extinct volcano. Booker chose to buy a distinctive Turrell LED wall sculpture for his dining area because he was so amazed. “Having this lovely work of art that my guests and I can admire while having dinner is one of my favorite aspects of the house,” he says.
Booker’s perseverance has enabled him to become the creator of his own narrative since his quick ascent to prominence in the NBA. His home serves as a haven for him and a reprieve from the demanding lifestyle of a professional athlete. The young superstar feels like the best version of himself at home, with retractable glass walls and a yard complete with a swimming pool, campfire, and guesthouse inspired by Bali: “I know this house is something special.” I keep thinking about coming back here during those extended drives. It seems like something I’ve always had, but I’m only now becoming aware of it.
