Say bye time! Marseille is supposedly eyeing the services of Manchester United defender Raphael Varane

Along with Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho, the 30-year-old made the headline-grabbing move from Real Madrid to Old Trafford in the summer of 2021.

After that, Varane helped Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United team win the 2022–23 EFL Cup in 75 appearances across all competitions, scoring twice.

Before hаnging up his cleats in March 2023, the defender was an anchor for his country and a member of the French squad that won the 2018 World Cup.

Foot01, a French news outlet, reports that Marseille has put Manchester United star Raphael Varane on their list of potential January signings.

Les Olympiens are presently in ninth place in Ligue 1, but they are working hard to improve their position under the tutelage of Italian coach Gennaro Gattuso.

It has been reported that Marseille will be targeting the January transfer window to bring in a top-tier central defender, with Varane being their top target.

Ostigard, a 24-year-old defender for Napoli, has been on Gattuso’s radar as a possible acquisition. He has maintained his impressive form for Naples this season.

Last season, under Luciano Spalletti’s tutelage, the ex-Brighton & Hove Albion man made a brief appearance in seven league matches for Napoli, helping the club win their first Scudetto of the new century.

Regarding Varane, the former Real Madrid defender has made eight Premier League appearances for Manchester United this season, with his lone goal coming in August’s 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Frenchman is rumored to prefer remaining at Old Trafford beyond the end of the January window, despite the fact that Marseille is seriously interested in signing him.

Since Varane’s contract with Manchester United will not be renewed until the end of the 2024–25 season, the club is in no rush to sell the central defender for a transfer fee.

On Saturday night, United lost 1-0 to Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United in the Premier League. Ten Hag started Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire in defense instead of Varane.

Still, word on the street is that the defender is Һell-bent on winning back the trust of the Dutch coach and cementing his place in Manchester United’s starting lineup.

If Ten Hag decides to rotate his players, Varane might start in one of Manchester United’s upcoming matches against Chelsea on Wednesday night or Bournemouth, who are in dаnger of relegation, on Saturday.
