Romeo Lavia and Christopher Nkunku should be available for Chelsea soon, according to Mauricio Pochettino.
Nkunku and Lavia, who joined the Blues from RB Leipzig and Southampton, respectively, in the summer, have not yet made their debuts for the team, despite encouraging reports before to the most recent international break. Lavia has been dealing with an ankle problem since moving to Stamford Bridge, while Nkunku was hurt during a preseason friendly.
Nkunku will not be ready for Wednesday’s game against Manchester United, according to Pochettino, who also said to “hope soon.” Tomorrow, he won’t be involved. As we usually tell you, I believe it comes down to day-by-day assessment. When we see a player on the field, we occasionally become enthusiastic and want to get him as soon as possible. However, I believe we should exercise caution, since when he is ready, he will undoubtedly be very strong.”
When asked if Lavia will be included in the matchday roster, Pochettino replied, “Romeo is doing well also, but like Christopher is not going to be involved.”
Following their high-profile acquisitions, Chelsea is forward to see both players play in their first competitive matches in west London. Lavia turned down Liverpool’s interest and was signed by Southampton for an initial £53 million ($68 million), while Leipzig of Germany paid the same amount for forward Nkunku.
The two will not be available when Chelsea travels to Merseyside to play Everton in the Premier League on Sunday. They will also be absent from Chelsea’s midweek trip to Old Trafford to play United.
