As his son passed the ball around the court, LeBron stood on the sidelines and called out to him.

In an effort to gradually get Bronny back into the starting lineup and into playing condition, USC had him start the game as a reserve.

Last week, USC coach Andy Enfield stated, “It’s just going to be a feel for how the game’s going, how he’s playing, how he feels physically.”

“He and his teammates are going to have a very emotional Sunday. But I think he’ll get used to it as the game goes on, so we’ll just play it half-heartedly and see where he is.”

On May 6, 2023, James, who was ranked No. 19 in his class, committed to USC.

The 6-foot-3 Cleveland player was regarded as one of the top five point guards in the nation and went to Sierra Canyon School in California.

He went into cardiac arrest on July 25 while working out during the off-season. When he arrived at the hospital, his neurological condition was said to be stable and he was fully cognizant.

It was found that a congenital cardiac abnormality was most likely the cause of the health issue.

“After a comprehensive initial evaluation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center led by Dr. Merije Chukumerije and follow-up evaluations at the Mayo Clinic led by Dr. Michael J. Ackerman and Atlantic Health/Morristown Medical Center led by Dr. Matthew W. Martinez, the probable cause of Mr. James’ sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) has been identified,” a spokesperson for the family stated.

It is a congenital heart defect that is significant both physically and functionally, and it will be treated.

“We are very confident in Bronny’s full recovery and return to basketball in the very near future.”

“A congenital heart defect results when the heart, or blood vessels near the heart, don’t develop normally before birth,” said the American Heart Association.

“Such defects result when a mishap occurs during heart development soon after conception — often before the mother is aware that she is pregnant.”

Notably, James experienced cardiac arrest rather than a heart attack.

When the heart cannot pump enough blood to sustain the body as a whole, cardiac arrest happens. When there is an obstruction stopping blood flow via the heart, a heart attack happens.

James may resume his basketball career immediately as the medical community has come to terms with his cardiac condition.

Though it would be a sensible precaution to keep him safe, it is unclear if he had an implanted cardioverter defibrillator, a device that ensures the heart beats correctly.

James may be able to get a pick in the NBA draft if he returns and plays well for USC.

LeBron James has made it known that he wants to play hoops with his son Bronny. If Bronny is taken in the draft, James may play for the team that selects him.

With nine games remaining in the USC season, James has plenty of opportunity to make an impression and earn a chance to play alongside his father.
