The Blues lost 2-0 at Goodison Park on Sunday to goals scored by Lewis Dobbin and Abdoulaye Doucoure.
Amidst mounting demands for Pochettino’s dismissal, Chelsea finds itself mired in 12th place in the Premier League, an enormous 14 points behind the top four.
The manager’s ιnjury wоes were exacerbated by the fact that several players went down with injuries during the match against the Toffees. Captain Reece James’s hamstring problem caused him to leave the field in the middle of the first half.
Ian Maatsen, who was making his Chelsea debut, and Dorde Petrovic came in for left back Cucurella and goalkeeper Sanchez later in the 84th minute. Maatsen made his debut for the Blues.
It was evident that Pochettino was irritated to see the number of injured players increase when he announced in his post-match news conference that the Spanish goalkeeper had indeed suffered an ιnjury in Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United.
Sanchez had an issue with his knee against Manchester United and felt something in the second half, according to the manager.
My sincere wish is that it won’t be as serious as when Marc Cucurella twisted his ankle. Wishing for a speedy recovery.
“We have been dealing with these types of situations from the start, and it is too much if we want to make progress.”
With the trio joining players like Wesley Fofana, Romeo Lavia, Malo Gusto, and Christopher Nkunku on the sidelines, the Chelsea treatment room is nearly at capacity.
Particularly worrisome is the fact that Cucurella’s ιnjury has left first-choice left-back Ben Chilwell out until the new year with a thigh ailment, leaving only the young Maatsen and center-back Levi Colwill as alternatives.
Luckily, the Blues’ remaining 2023 schedule features some very favorable opponents: Sheffield United, Wolves, Crystal Palace, Luton, and, in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals, Newcastle.
But with their current form, Pochettino’s squad has no chance of winning the holiday tournament.
