LeBron James and Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers were selected today to the 2023 All-Tournament Team in recognition of their efforts in the first-ever NBA In-Season Tournament’s Group Play and Knockout Rounds. With a perfect 7-0 record, the pair led the purple and gold to the first-ever NBA Cup.
With an average of 23.3 points, 14.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.0 steals, and 2.9 blocks in 33.9 minutes, Davis played in all seven of the Lakers’ in-season tournament games. He also shot 52.5 percent from the field and 79.6 percent from the free-throw line. On December 9 in Las Vegas, during the IST Finals, Davis scored 41 points (16-24 FG, 9-13 FT) in addition to 20 rebounds, five assists, four blocks, and five minutes of play. In tournament play, the 30-year-old led all players in total rebounds (102) and came in second in total blocks (20).
James averaged 26.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, 7.6 assists, and 1.6 steals in 30.7 minutes in seven In-Season Tournament games. He also shot 56.8 percent from the field and 60.6 percent from three-point range. The 38-year-old, who concluded the seven games with an IST-high of +116 plus/minus, was chosen as this year’s In-Season Tournament Most Valuable Player. Throughout the tournament, he made more field goals than any other player (67).
Prior to their home game on Monday, December 18, the Lakers will acknowledge the In-Season Tournament Championship and pay tribute to Davis and James. The group will present a special In-Season Tournament banner that adds a year to commemorate their first-ever victory in 2023.
