With a goal from Christian Pulisic, Italian heavyweights defeat Newcastle, but they Champions League aspirations are dashed

Superhero Captain America almost becomes Milan’s hero! With a goal from Christian Pulisic, Italian heavyweights defeat Newcastle, but they Champions League aspirations are dashed.

In a 2-1 victory over Newcastle, AC Milan were able to secure their spot in Europe courtesy of a stunning goal delivered by Christian Pulisic.

The group was expecting a high-octane showdown in Wednesday’s fixtures, and Newcastle got the ball rolling with the first goal.

The home team took the lead in the 33rd minute with a goal scored by Joelinton. Mike Maignan had little opportunity to stop the ball.

But Pulisic gave Milan a second-half equalizer. The ball bounced about the box after Rafael Leao’s cross, eventually landing to Olivier Giroud, who flitted a pass to Pulisic. Pulisic had a golden opportunity to equalize with a tap-in from wide on the back post, equalizing the score 1-1.

Supersub Samuel Chukwueze gave the away team hope with a huge goal in stoppage time, bringing the score to 2-1.

The events in Germany, unfortunately, put an end to that dream. After their match against Borussia Dortmund ended in a tie, Paris Saint-Germain advanced to second position, relegating Milan to third.

Wednesday was the end of Milan’s Champions League dreams. However, they still have more European dates to come.

Milan will now play in the Europa League after finishing in third place, only missing out on the highly desired second place slot. Even though both Milan and PSG finished with eight points, PSG advanced to the Champions League because of their superior play.

But there is still hope: when the Europa League season starts up again in the spring, Milan will compete in it.

IMPACT OF USMNT

Pulisic has been a rock for Milan since his arrival, and he scored his best goal on Wednesday.

The goal he scored in the semi-final match against Real Madrid in the Champions League was his crowning achievemešš—t while playing for Chelsea. Pulisic made headlines in 2022 when he scored the game-winning goal for the United States mešš—’s national team against Iran in the World Cup, allowing his team to advance out of their group in Qatar.

Pulisic has a history of making huge plays when it matters most. Even though we will not be participating in the Champions League this year, our aspirations of playing in Europe are far from ended.

Stefano Pioli’s choice to start the young midfielder Yunus Musah in this match further demonstrates his faith in Musah, who continues to be an important player for Milan.

Score: 8/10 for Christian Pulisic:

Big nŠ°me, big game, big objective. The American superstar made yet another statement with the goal, even if his team ultimately lost the Champions League.

Dear Yunus Musah,

Solid midfielder who contributed to the goal. Demonstrated his physical abilities in a huge match.

Milan will shift their attention to the Serie A title figŅŗt, where they are now in third place, behind Inter and Juventus, now that their Champions League aspirations have been dashed. Before this weekend’s match against Monza, Milan will be in a ninth-place position, nine points behind first-place Inter and seven behind second-place Juve.

In the meanwhile, the club’s preparations for the Europa League, where they want to go far, will start in the spring.
