In an intense summer transfer window, Moises Caicedo found himself caught in the thick of a bidding wаr between Liverpool and Chelsea.
Chelsea had to smаsh the British transfer record to acquire Caicedo for £115 million, despite pressure from the Reds, but the Ecuadorian midfielder ultimately selected Stamford Bridge.
Midfielders Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo were acquired by Liverpool, but Brighton emerged victorious in the saga and pocketed a substantial price.
With Liverpool atop the Premier League and Chelsea in a disastrоus 12th position, Caicedo’s judgment has been questioned, at least in the near term.
As a 22-year-old, you may recall that he made his Premier League debut in a 3-1 loss to West Ham and that he has played in 14 of 16 games, winning only five of those.
The reason Caicedo made the call had more to do with fulfilling his desires, though, as he indicated.
For what seemed like an eternity, he spoke with Chelsea, he informed Sky Sports. Chelsea made it so I couldn’t sаy no; they were always there to cheer me on.
It was difficult to leave Brighton in the summer, so I suffered a lot. They were at my side the whole time, and Liverpool gave me a call right before the game, but by then it was too late; I was determined to play for Chelsea. Refusing Chelsea’s request was a challenge.
Not because of the money; winning is always the goal at Chelsea. Regardless of the game. Because the supporters are continually rooting for the team to win, there is a lot of pressure to perform well.
Winning can be challenging at times due to the difficulty of the other teams. We are Chelsea, but we are also a young, inexperienced team. Everything is new to me because I’ve just been here for four months.
In my opinion, the time has come. It will require some time.
