Over the past five years, finding a replacement for Sergio Busquets has been one of Barcelona’s top goals. They were unable to do so, though, and when the captain left the team this summer to join Inter Miami, they found themselves without a backup.
Although Barcelona paid €3.5 million to acquire Oriol Romeu from Girona, the deal has not been successful. His early-season performances were shockingly good, but they have steadily declined subsequently.
Because of this, Xavi has decided to frequently employ Frenkie de Jong and Ilkay Gundogan in the No. 6 position this season. But it’s obvious that this minimizes their best attributes.
Barcelona was thus searching for a youthful, technically sound pivot who could fill that void for an extended period of time.
Gabriel Moscardo, a teenage Brazilian, was one of the possibilities they were thinking about among a sea of talent that included Joshua Kimmich, Martin Zubimendi, and others.
Barcelona and others will be defeated by PSG.Considering that Moscardo is only eighteen, all of Europe’s elite teams, including Barcelona, were impressed by his performances with Corinthians this season. But PSG appears to have completed the transaction.
Fabrizio Romano recently provided an update, stating that PSG is expected to finalize Moscardo’s signing for €22 million plus an additional €1 million.
Following a productive meeting with Corinthians on Tuesday, discussions have reached a conclusion, following which the paperwork will be completed.
What other choices does Barcelona have? The media, however, is still adamant that Barcelona prioritizes targeting Kimmich and Zubimendi. The latter’s summer transfer is also possible, as Bayern Munich is reportedly interested in signing the former from Real Sociedad.
The table also has a few other names. Long-term targets Arthur Vermeeren of Royal Antwerp is still on their radar, but short-term prospects like Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester City and Guido Rodriguez of Real Betis have also been taken into consideration.
