On Monday, at Buckingham Palace, Manchester United star Jonny Evans was presented with an MBE by Prince William, in acknowledgment of his contributions to the sport of football.

With Lisandro Martinez out with an ιnjury, the Red Devils’ summer acquisition has played more minutes than anticipated since his return to Old Trafford following an eight-year hiatus.

But he has been out since the beginning of November with a hamstring strain, so his recent streak of games has come to an end.

He has been a mainstay for Northern Ireland and has amassed an incredible 106 caps for the Green and White army, despite a club career that has seen three changes in eight years.

Now that he’s 35 years old, the crown has officially acknowledged his contributions to the game, and the centre defender expressed his at earning the accolade.

“I was a little shocked, but it was amazing,” the Man United defender remarked, after receiving the letter through the door and seeing the Royal seal on its back.

It was a source of great personal pride for me since it acknowledged my work in the field of association football in Northern Ireland. That I’ve had the opportunity to play for my country over a hundred times and for Northern Ireland for such a long time has really Һit home. Having fun while representing the entire nation was a highlight of my life.

In September 2006, Evans debuted for Northern Ireland in one of the most famous results in the country’s history—a shоcking 3-2 victory over Spain.

Following that, he represented his country at the 2016 European Championships in France and scored six goals in his senior campaign.

Along with Evans, football great Ian Wright—who was presented with an OBE by Prince William—and Rangers hero John Greig were present.

At the Birthday Honours event, which took place at Buckingham Palace, former England rugby captain Sarah Hunter and referee Amy Fearn were both presented with MBEs.
