Winger Antony has come under fire from former Manchester United goalie Peter Schmeichel for his performance against Nottingham Forest.

The former United goalkeeper acknowledged how “frustrating” he found Antony’s performance at the City Ground after the team lost 2-1 to Nuno Espirito Santo’s team on Saturday. He also said that Antony doesn’t have enough of an influence on the field.

In an interview with South African television SuperSport, he stated: “I really believe that [Erik ten Hag] ought to reconsider Antony’s stance. He contributes very little to the team. His teammates get annoyed with him. It is very annoying.

“He’s had an opportunity for a long time, this is a player that hasn’t scored this season, he’s not made an assist and he’s not scored, it’s like he’s not really understanding the game.”

After Rasmus Hojlund was ruled out due to ιnjury, the 23-year-old winger returned to the starting lineup. This meant that Alejandro Garnacho, who has been playing well, was once again moved to the left flank, while Antony played on the right.

With just four goals and two assists in the top division of English football since joining the Red Devils in 2022 after leaving Ajax, Antony has battled to regain his best form. In 16 Premier League games during the 2023–24 season, the Brazilian has not yet found the back of the net.

Whether Antony plays or not, United are getting ready for their FA Cup match against Wigan Athletic and their league match at Old Trafford against Tottenham.

The Brazilian winger was replaced by rookie Amad Diallo just after halftime against Forest, which may be a sign of his availability for Ten Hag’s squad in future games.
