After Manchester United’s miss against Wigan, Roy Keane slams Rasmus Hojlund, saying, ‘I would be fuming’

Rasmus Hojlund was singled out by ex-Manchester United captain Roy Keane for missing first-half chances in Monday’s FA Cup match against Wigan Athletic.

United took a one-goal advantage into halftime at the DW Stadium, thanks to a beautiful shot from Diogo Dalot in the 22nd minute. Having missed many golden opportunities, the Reds should have guaranteed their spot in the round of four by halftime.

United nearly added to their score when Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay, and Hojlund all had good chances but were either saved by Wigan goalkeeper Sam Tickle or missed the mark. Even though he has scored six goals this season, Hojlund missed a golden opportunity to score when Tickle deftly parried a ferocious shot from Rashford into his path.

The ball was played to his feet in a flash, so he had to be quick on his feet, yet Keane still scolded the Dane for missing the target. Ian Wright, a fellow commentator and one of the best goal scorers of his time, felt sorry for the youngster, while Roy Keane was unimpressed and said the youngster should have scored from two golden opportunities.

On Wright’s expression of sympathy for the forward, Keane responded, “You’re too kind,” in an interview with ITV Sport. Along with him, I would be furious.

We were hoping United would display a different aspect of their game tonight, and I think they have—missing opportunities and lacking clinical play. We can moan and groan about your striker’s lack of luck all day long, but those missed opportunities are golden.

“Put the ball in the back of the net and stop messing around!”
