In the LA Lakers’ game against the LA Clippers on Sunday night, LeBron James of the team got everyone up and dancing with his play against Paul George. In their 106-103 victory over their local rivals, James scored one of the finest dunks of the year. Even an NBA star gave him a heartfelt complement for his amazing move.
James put in a lot of effort for the Lakers, finishing with 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. In just 39 minutes of action, Anthony Davis recorded a double-double (ten rebounds and 22 points) to help Los Angeles end a four-game losing streak.
The four-time MVP snatched a rebound early in the third quarter and went coast-to-coast. He launched it over George and took off right before the dotted line.
James’ action was praised by Lakers veteran James Worthy, who likened him to legendary Philadelphia 76ers player Julius Erving.
Worthy said, “That was the dunk of the century, man.” At thirty-nine years old, that person had the appearance of Dr. J from the 1970s. The Statue of Liberty dunk from the dotted line, and he flung it down forcefully.”
The fans went bananas after the 19-time All-Star’s dunk electrified the whole Crypto.com Arena.
When they take on the visiting, revamped Toronto Raptors on Tuesday, the Lakers hope to build on their victory.
LeBron James is just a few points away from being the league’s first player to amass 40,000 points.
LeBron James passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the all-time scoring chart during the previous season. James was selected in the 2003 NBA Draft and has since scored 39,509 points. He’s going to create history once more this season with another goal.
Three-time NBA champion and former Lakers coach Byron Scott mentioned last year that James might score 40,000 points in his lifetime.
“I think that he’ll get to the point where he’ll have over 40,000 points in this league, and I don’t think that it will be broken, especially in our lifetime,” Scott stated.
He needs just 491 points to become the first player in NBA history to reach 40,000 career points. The fact that he has scored a sizable number of points while getting less playing time and games than Abdul-Jabbar is impressive.
During his illustrious career, the former Lakers center played 1,560 games and accrued 57,446 minutes (after four seasons at UCLA, when he won three national titles while playing in an age when freshmen were not allowed to participate).
James, however, has accrued 55,267 minutes and participated in 1,455 games. Although many predict that he will accomplish the scoring feat in February, it appears that he will cross the 40,000 mark this month.
There are rumors that during their game on January 17 against the Dallas Mavericks, the 2003 Rookie of the Year will probably score 40,000 points. This season, James is averaging 25.2 points.
