The availability of Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana at the Africa Cup of Nations is about to undergo a change

Andre Onana played a part in United’s 2-0 FA Cup victory over Wigan Athletic on Monday night; he has been waiting to join up with his colleagues since being named to Cameroon’s 27-man roster.

In order to play a Premier League match against Spurs before making the run, he agreed with Cameroon officials that he would stay until January 14.

Despite the short turnaround, Onana was hoping to play in both of Cameroon’s group stage games on January 15 when they face Guinea.

After negotiations between United and the Cameroon FA, iNews reports that he would most likely sit out the first match.

The general consensus is that Onana won’t have enough time to make it to the Ivory Coast before being considered for selection.

Some have speculated that Onana may not even see any action for Cameroon throughout the tournament.

It has been suggested that the former Inter Milan player’s return in August was prompted by pressure from the president of Cameroon. He had previously quit from international football after a disagreement with manager Rigobert Song.

If Cameroon are knocked out of the group stage, he might not miss a club game because United aren’t in action until 27 January, after the Spurs encounter.

Guinea, Senegal, and the Gambia make up Group C, which also includes Cameroon.

Supposedly, Onana was hesitant to travel to the tournament because he was worried that Altay Bayindir, the team’s backup goalkeeper, would steаl his position.

Bayindir has not yet made his United debut after joining the club in the summer for £4.3 million from Fenerbahce.

Onana has made 29 appearances and played every minute of every game across all competitions.
