On Saturday night, the Golden State Warriors paid a visit to the Milwaukee Bucks at the Fiserv Forum as part of their back-to-back doubleheader schedule. Stephen Curry and Giannis Antetokounmpo, the league’s MVPs and faces of the clubs, are on both sides.
Because of mutual respect, the game was intense from start to finish and displayed playoff intensity similar to that of the previous two champions.
Stephen Curry, the best player for the Warriors, did not play in the game, though, as Coach Steve Kerr decided to give him a rare day off. Kerr claimed that Curry was “exhausted” and in need of a rest since he had been taking on too much of the Warriors’ workload alone.
After 37 minutes of play, Giannis Antetokounmpo concluded the game with 33 points, nine rebounds, and five assists on 13 of 22 shots, leading the Bucks.
Curry and Antetokounmpo took some time to catch up and give each other hugs after the game. NBA fans posted their responses to their meeting on Twitter. Among the numerous others, one stated:
“If only these two would pair up”
During their reunion, fans conjectured in ways that went beyond the norm, with each group voicing a want for the other famous player to either join or at least be traded for.
The moments when Giannis Antetokounmpo and Stephen Curry shared the court together
The first NBA All-Star to have Antetokounmpo and Curry together on the court was the 2017 edition. However, when they faced off, Curry was the target of Antetokounmpo’s nasty dunks.
It had become so terrible that Curry had become a viral clip highlighting Antetokounmpo’s aggressive put-back dunks that he chose to pick him in the 2018 All-Star West team.
Curry and Antetokounmpo were reunited on the All-Star team the following season. Once again, the superstars put on a highlight display, but this time as teammates, as Antetokounmpo showed off his amazing length with a ridiculous dunk after Steph fed him the ball.
Both players were paired together for the 2022 All-Star team. Stephen Curry won the All-Star MVP award, scoring 50 points with 16 made 3-pointers, shattering Anthony Davis’ previous record of 48 points.
How would a lineup featuring Giannis Antetokounmpo and Stephen Curry look?
The Warriors have been actively looking to fill Kevin Durant’s forward position vacuum since his departure in 2019. There are sporadic reports that Giannis Antetokounmpo and Stephen Curry will be teammates with the Dubs.
Given how well their games complement one another, their pair might work well together. By drawing attention to one another and double-teaming, the two would make room for one another.
Due to Antetekounmpo’s ability to drive and kick, Curry would have ample space to decide whether to attack the open floor or catch and shoot.
In a similar vein, Curry’s off-ball movement and shooting terror would create space for Antetokounmpo to attack and advance.
