January 14 at the Fiserv Forum saw the Milwaukee Bucks defeat the Sacramento Kings in overtime, and Damian Lillard just scored his first buzzer-beater while playing for his team. With this victory, the Bucks raise their record to 27-12 and begin a three-game winning streak.
Damian Lillard inbounded the ball to Brook Lopez in the last five seconds of overtime and again called for it. De’Aaron Fox was chasing him as he raced into the midcourt, and Domantas Sabonis was waiting near the three-point line.
Just 2.1 seconds remained, and Lillard made the shot as the buzzer went off by pulling up between the Bucks logo and the three-point line. For the seven-time NBA All-Star, this was simply another day at work during the post-game interview.
“At that point in the game, I noticed that we were down two or three seconds. They became a little clumsy,” Lillard remarked. “Once I saw that open space, I was like this is the space that I live in, you know, the end of the game, an opportunity to come up big—that’s what I’m here for.”
At the end of the game, Damian Lillard’s stat line read 29 points, 8 assists, and 4 rebounds. Giannis Antetokounmpo, meanwhile, finished with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists to achieve a triple-double.
The 2500th triple for Damian Lillard is a resounding buzzer-beater.
Damian Lillard’s game-winning three-pointer against the Sacramento Kings was not just a buzzer-beater; it was also his 2,500th three-pointer.
Just five players have reached this milestone thus far. Steph Curry, Ray Allen, James Harden, and Reggie Miller made up the other four. Lillard currently trails Miller by 60 in the all-time NBA three-pointer made list.
In the first 36 games of the Milwaukee Bucks’ season, Lillard has averaged 25.1 points, 6.8 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 3.0 three-pointers, and 1.1 steals. By late February, if he keeps up this rate, he will surpass Miller to become the fourth-most-made three-point shooter in NBA history.
The 33-year-old point guard expands his already impressive CV in the NBA by adding another significant accomplishment. Seven NBA All-Star appearances for Lillard occurred in 2014, 2015, 2018–2021, and 2023.
In 2013, he was crowned NBA Rookie of the Year, and in 2018, he was included on the All-NBA First Team. In addition, Lillard was honored with two selections to the All-NBA Third Team (2014, 2023) and four selections to the All-NBA Second Team (2016, 2019–2021).
In 2021, Lillard won the NBA Teammate of the Year title and was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team.
