The future of Manchester United star Casemiro is very uncertain after the current season.
In spite of manager Erik ten Hag’s claims last weekend that the Brazilian midfielder had a “fantastic” debut season, it seems like his stay at Old Trafford is coming to a close. With over two years remaining on his £350,000-a-week deal, 31-year-old Casemiro still has plenty of time to play for Real Madrid, who paid £60 million for him 18 months ago. The Reds can choose to add another year to it if they want to.
However, that will not transpire. The new football authority at United has decided that it is best to trade Casemiro because he has missed the majority of this season due to injuries.
Instead of risking being stuck with him and paying enormous salary to a squad player if they try to sell him at a discounted price in the summer, they are willing to cut their losses. That can only happen if Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos Group and Casemiro can come to an agreement on a buyout. Sir Jim’s 25% stake in the club is due to be approved next month.
The British millionaire and his advisers continue to believe that it is more prudent to remove Casemiro from the books, even if this could result in lost earnings amounting to £20 million or more. The club’s future top transfer targets will be expecting financial parity as long as he continues there, given he is the club’s joint-highest income. Therefore, the plan was to purchаse him out by the end of summer.
Casemiro may be able to leave sooner if a resolution is reached between the parties before then. The five-time Champions League winner would then be eligible to sign with any team, outside of the typical transfer windows, since he would be a free agent.
