Unfortunately for the Dutch team, the hosts’ never-sаy-Ԁie mentality made the match difficult from the first whistle.
United did got off to a great start, scoring twice in the first half to give themselves a nice cushion. However, Newport scored two goals in quick succession, and United let their two-goal advantage slip away.Antony scored in the second half to put United back in the lead, and Rasmus Hojlund scored the game-winning goal with minutes to go, giving him three goals in a row (as seen above).
Based on the outcome of their fourth-round rematch, United will advance to face either Nottingham Forest or Bristol City.
Newport County 2-4 Manchester United : Player Ratings
This afternoon in the FA Cup in Wales, Manchester United ultimately prevailed against Newport County, 4-2. Our player ratings for the match are as follows.
(A 6 is considered average)
Altay Bayindir 6-In his debut, he made a handful of clumsy passes and a few poor throws, but he was unable to prevent either goal. Great last-ditch effort.
Diogo Dalot (6.5)—Dalot had a lot of possession and good chances, particularly in the first half, but he was unable to create anything after setting up Mainoo for the goal.
Five-Star Raphael Varane looked good for the first 45 minutes but was abysmal in the second goal that Newport scored.
Lisandro Martínez 6.5–Showed solid play and made some good passes forward.
Not match fit, thus not performing up to par, but he did set up the third goal with a fantastic shot that struck the post and Antony finished off the rebound. Luke Shaw scored 6.5.
A solid effort all around and a goal that was taken well—Kobbie Mainoo 7.5.
Casemiro 5-After a lengthy layoff, he appeared a little leggy. He took out his standard playing card, a yellow one this time, which was a relief.
Antony 6.5—The ball was often in his possession versus League 2 opponents. We can’t really complain now that I’ve scored and assisted on a goal…
A goal well-taken and some decent passing gave Bruno Fernandes 7.5.
Very little was accomplished by Alejandro Garnacho despite having a lot of possession and against high-quality opponents. Selfish and ill-equipped to make decisions.
Raphael Hojlund 7– Up to the goal, I had no service whatsoever. That he scored while facing such little opposition all afternoon is fantastic.
Other options:
Little effect from Scott McTominay 6.
6—Willy Kambwala—Not all that significant.
Harry Maguire 6: Minimal effect.
With an assist, Omari Forson’s 6.5 must be good.
6-There was insufficient time for Jonny Evans to make an impression.
Manager Erik ten Hag (5.5): Selected a solid team, although central midfield lacked imagination, and set pieces remain a mystеry.
