Manchester United defeated Luton Town 2-1 at Kenilworth Road to win the Premier League for the fourth time in a row.
Rasmus Hojlund’s braces in the first seven minutes of the game put United ahead. But the team faltered, letting Luton gradually get more and more into the match. In the fourteenth minute, Carlton Morris cut the margin in half, causing some concern for United.
The Hatters dominated the game and created plenty of opportunities, but the Red Devils managed to hold on and secure all three points. Luton had 59% possession, whereas United had 41%.
Out of their 21 attempts at goal, Erik ten Hag’s team managed to put nine shots on goal. Conversely, Luton had 22 shots in all, but only four of those needed Andre Onana to step in. United completed 387 passes at a 76% pass accuracy rate.
Luton completed 517 passes with an 83% completion percentage. Aside from Hojlund, who clearly scored both goals, one of United’s greatest players was Kobbie Mainoo. Mainoo excelled above his more seasoned and experienced teammates in a game where his two senior midfield partners, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes, performed appallingly. The native star’s accuracy on personal passes was 88%. Of the 40 passes he tried, 35 were completed successfully. These two passes were crucial ones. Throughout his time on the field, Mainoo made 53 touches with the ball. He recovered nine balls with incredible skill. The eighteen-year-old started dribbling five times. He took home all five. In the five ground duels he engaged in, the player prevailed. The fact that Mainoo continues to gain strength, confidence, and stature with each game is undoubtedly a big plus. He is undoubtedly one of the first names on the team sheet and an established member of the first team already.
