Real Madrid faced Sevilla in LaLiga on Sunday night and emerged victorious, courtesy of a late goal from legendary midfielder Luka Modrić.
The match was, as usual, a hard-fought one between two heavyweights of Spanish football, but, as they so often do, the league leaders found a way to grab all three points on the backs of their individual brilliance.
Although the match itself was entertaining, one of the big storylines coming into it was the reunion of Sergio Ramos at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The iconic No. 4 returned to Sevilla after spending a couple of seasons in PSG, having previously written a legacy for himself as the GOAT center back in Madrid. He began his career at Sevilla before joining Madrid.
Ramos received quite the return welcome from Madridistas, as the club had that planned for him. However, the most beautiful moment of all was his jersey exchange with former teammate Luka Modrić.
Together, Modrić and Ramos were the best of friends for Los Blancos, connecting unforgettably for the 92:48 goal that rescued Real Madrid and fueled the path to La Décima – and subsequently three (well, in Lukita’s case, four) more Champions League titles.
These are the pure moments that football is all about. There is nothing like watching two of the greatest ever share a moment of genuine respect, friendship, and warmth.
As cold as the game of football can be, the spirit of the sport is still alive and well in the players, in the fans, and in the enduring memories created.
Every Real Madrid fan thought of all the moments Modrić and Ramos crafted together as pillars of four Champions League crowns, especially the 92:48 goal that is one of the most famous in football – not just Madrid – history.
Perhaps what made this return match and moment all the sweeter for Madridistas was the fact that Ramos made a goal-saving block and Modrić made the game-winning goal. All these years later, they still have it.
