N’Golo Kante is sent off for his reckless challenge on a former Chelsea teammate, making it the midfielder’s only ever red card

Though many people consider N’Golo Kante to be one of the nicest individuals in football, one of his former Chelsea teammates might not agree.

He saw red for the first time in almost ten years

For the second time in his career, the French World Cup winner was sent off for a risky tackle on Kalidou Koulibaly.Last summer, both of the former Blues teammates left Stamford Bridge for Saudi Arabia.

Then, on Tuesday, they played for opposing teams in the Asian Champions League, with Kante’s Al Ittihad team taking on Koulibaly’s Al Hilal.

After 66 minutes, Kante was sent out for a challenge on the defender, putting his team behind two goals.

Although the midfield player was first spared a harsh penalty, a VAR ruling resulted in his career’s only second dismissal.

During his time in the Premier League with Chelsea and Leicester City, Kante did not receive a single red card.

The 32-year-old has a spotless record when it comes to discipline for his nation; the only other red card he has ever received was earlier in his career.

In 2014, following Caen’s 1-0 loss to Stade Rennais, Kante was sent off, just two years after he turned professional.

Since then, Kante has refrained from accomplishing the same feat ten times over, with some even suggesting that his “good reputation” has kept him afloat. His modest demeanor made him so popular in England, but his Saudi Arabian team will now have to work hard to close the gap in his absence.

Aleksandr Mitrovic, a former striker for Fulham, and Salem Aldawsari both scored goals, therefore Al Ittihad is leading the reverse match.

The Saudi Pro League winners from the previous season are in fifth place this time around, with Al Hilal leading their nearest rivals, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr, by nine points.
